YARAT Contemporary Arts Space launch a residency programme that aims to further support local arts scene and encourage creative exchange between local and international artists. Residency invites international artists to stay and work in Baku for up to three months along with two local artists, who are given temporary working spaces as part of YARAT Studios and are encouraged to produce a body of work that results in shows at the ARTIM Project Space. ARTIM Project Space is basically an abandoned old house in heart of the old city Baku Icheri Sheher a designated exhibition space that was conceived as a platform for experimenting and professionally showcasing art.
YARAT Contemporary Art Space is holding a solo show of Iranian resident Neda Zarfsaz, “Prospect off the slope” at the ARTIM Project Space on July 15th, 2016, at 19:00. The show will be on display until August 21. “Prospect off the slope” is a conclusive project by resident artist Neda Zarfsaz. The context of the show based on the local environment’s influence to the artist. Presented seven works talk about the artist’s personal suggestive way on changes that is happening around us. Collected works are kind of archiving about environment and landscape. It talks about the modern construction effects, industry’s role in Caspian marine region and asks existence questions.
Walking into ARTIM, a visitor might briefly consider the space incomplete, as a site under construction, or a piece in process. This is direct reflection on many of Baku’s unfinished buildings. With the current economic crisis, many construction sites have been deserted due to budget cuts. As a result, the projects looks like that have been deserted from one minute to the next – sometimes giving the illusion that the workers are just out for a break.
